The Right Hon Lord Carloway, Lord Justice Clerk, will deliver the 2014 Drummond Hunter Memorial Lecture. The lecture is entitled: “The purposes of sentencing – from Beccaria to the Order of Lifelong Restriction and beyond”. The Lord Justice Clerk will examine the development of the purposes of sentencing in Scotland and consider the possible directions of reform and policy ahead of the creation of the Scottish Sentencing Council. The lecture is co-sponsored by Howard League Scotland and the Centre for Law and Society at the University of Edinburgh. It will be followed by a drinks reception, to which all are welcome.
