Howard League Scotland Student Group will examine attempts to move away from short prison sentences to community alternatives.

 

A brief history of community alternatives will be followed by short presentations from Rose McConnachie, Policy Development Lead at Community Justice Scotland and Cyrus Tata, Professor of Law and Criminal Justice at Strathclyde University Law School.

 

Discussions will encompass reactions to a short film 'Something To Lose' commissioned by Community Justice Glasgow. It follows the fictional journey of a young man on a Community Payback Order ‘CPO’ - as an alternative to a short term prison sentence - and the impact it has on his life.
