Your membership of Howard League Scotland will help us to have a greater and more influential voice in reforming Scotland’s criminal justice system for the better. The League already enjoys a prominent position as an independent and learned authority on criminal justice matters but with greater numbers comes greater influence. The League does not receive government funding and can speak independently and authoritatively on penal reform and related issues. We do this by both provoking public debate and engaging with official bodies to improve and refine penal practice, community justice provision, human rights and greater use of evidence-based interventions and practice.
If you would like to see a copy of the League's constitution (as at May 2014) please click here.
As Howard League Scotland is a registered charity (SC017234) we are able to reclaim tax you have paid on your subscription and/or donations. For every £10 received we can reclaim £2.50. If you are a tax payer, please select the Gift Aid option on your online membership form or (if using the paper form) return it to us with your subscription and/or donation. You may also wish to know that if you pay higher rate tax, you can personally claim relief on the difference between the basic and higher rates on what you give us. For example, if you pay tax at 40% and give us £10 we can receive £2.50 as described above making a 'gross donation' of £12.50. You can then also claim relief for 20% of this gross donation reducing the tax you pay by £2.50. So your £7.50 will be worth £12.50 to us!
