Post-Release Supervision

Post-Release Supervision

In respect of post-release supervision, we welcome the mentoring scheme being introduced for women and we recommend the following:

  • Transitional support should be improved for all short term prisoners on release. Every prisoner who requires it should be met at the gate by a known support worker or volunteer and this person should continue to support the person as long as is necessary for them to become able to maintain a tenancy.
  • Planning should begin on the regimes to which offenders on Orders of Lifelong Restriction will be subject when they are released from prison.
  • The principle of Orders of Lifelong Restriction should be reviewed in the light of human rights legislation and experience elsewhere (especially England).
